Editor's Review & How To Play
Age of Origins is a very old game that was created in the early 1990s. It is an online web game with rules similar to Dota 2 and League of Legends, but it has its own unique gameplay and strategies that not many other games have. The Age of Origins Pro-Gaming team will try to teach you how to build a team in Age of Origins and how you should play by their strategies before playing them in your own personal matches.
The Basics
The objective of a game with Age of Origins is to defeat your opponent and earn points. A game is played in competitive rounds, with some matches consisting of several rounds if there is no winner right away. The best way to win in Age of Origins is to be smart on how you play the map. Some maps are sieges or defensive and some are attack maps. A siege map is where you build up your base and prepare to attack for the late game whereas an attack map is going directly at your opponent without any preparation.
As a beginner, let's start with getting a better understanding of the map. You start off with 2 main resources that you will always want: Food and Wood. These resources can be obtained by making a house with 10 wood, 100 food, and 1 clay (which is automatically placed in your inventory). From that house, you want to make 2-4 additional houses (up to 8) depending on the map. Wood is used to gather resources for your buildings and for some upgrades like range and attack speed. Food is used for building houses, early upgrades like the tannery, upgrading your hero's life, and your hero's ability to take out creeps (buildings from other players will not use up food). The third main resource of Age of Origins is Stone. Stone is used for building towers (which will be explained later), and upgrading your hero's armor/life.
The other important resource of Age of Origins is a coin. Coins are obtained through killing creeps (or enemy heroes). The amount of coins you get will be equal to their level multiplied by the number of coins you get from creeps. For example, if a creep with level 2 dies, then you will get 2 coins from killing that creep. If a creep with level 3 dies, then you will get 3 coins from killing that creep. If a creep with level 4 dies, then you will get 4 coins from killing that creep. If a creep with level 5 dies, then you will get 5 coins from killing that creep. In short, the amount of coins you obtain is equal to the difference in levels between your hero and the enemy hero/creep.
The final important thing to know about the map is towers. Towers are important for base defense, and it is crucial that you build a tower as soon as you obtain stone. The first tower should be a ranged tower (the tannery) and should be placed in your lane. The positioning of the towers is determined by how many resources your team has. You want your ranged tower to attack the lane that contains all of the other player's buildings (heavily defended) so that you can have more time to get more resources before the enemy pushes against you.
Now that you know the basics of the map, let's move on to the team. A team in Age of Origins is composed of a ranged hero and a melee hero. The ranged hero should be ranged in order to attack from a long distance and cause less damage upon attack. The melee hero should be melee type because you are able to push your enemy away whereas ranged heroes can't. For that reason, it is important to buy two heroes in order to stand a chance against your enemy. In order to enter the match, you must meet one of the following requirements: level 15 and at least 200 stones or level 20 and at least 400 stones.
Some fun way to play Age of Origins
If your enemy is a ranged hero, instead of getting an ranged hero, get a melee hero with high attack speed. Then try attacking them from behind the walls of their buildings in order to hit them primarily with melee attacks (instead of range attacks) and cause little or no damage on attack.
If your enemy has a melee hero, try focusing with the ranged hero on hitting their buildings while they are busy attacking each other. This way, you won't lose much resources at all.
If your enemy has a ranged hero, attack with your melee hero and try to kill them first before getting their resources. There is a much higher chance that you lose resources when you attack another team when both of the two teammates are ranged heroes.
Remember these strategies for now because we will use them later on in the series. Also, keep in mind that these tips are for the beginner age of origins players. There you have it: a basic explanation of the game and some strategy tips for beginners. The Age of Origins Pro-Gaming team will try to teach you how to play Age of Origins on both attack maps and siege maps.
